We Love Coffee!

A cup of coffee is beautiful in its simplicity. However the process from seed to cup is far from simple. It’s an unbelievable result stemming from growing, farming, processing & sorting the fruit. Every step of the process will influence the end taste. By respecting the overall process and how the green coffee made it into our hands, we make it our responsibility to explore each varietal by diving deeper and deeper into the intricacies of the roasting process. It is only when the coffee is skillfully roasted, that it has a chance to be prepared at the highest level, crafting a great cup. To us a cup of black coffee is colorful and complex in its own way. At Big Bear Coffee Roasting we let our craft speak for itself.

Roasting the Bean

Once the green coffee arrives at Big Bear Coffee Roasting facility, it is up to the BBCRC roaster to bring out the complex flavors and aromas. Our goal is to best represent what the grower had in mind while tending to the coffee shrubs. Because each sack of green coffee may respond differently in our Diedrich Roaster, we are constantly evaluating the quality of our roasted coffee. We experiment with and explore each new arrival, searching for that bean’s optimal finish temperature and roast time. Simply, there is not a “one size fits all” solution to roasting coffee, our Diedrich Roaster is not automated and we do not use profiling software.

Cold Brewing

Did you know that cold brewed coffee yields lower acidity than regular coffee? It has a smooth, refreshing, unique flavor. At Big Bear Coffee Roasting Company our cold brew process takes 72 hours so that you get great flavor that is two times stronger than traditionally hot brewed coffee.

Studies show that there are some health benefits to drinking cold brewed coffee as well. Coffee contains antioxidants, phytochemicals and other nutrients, but for some people the acidity in hot coffee is too much. It can upset their pH balance, sometimes causing acid reflux. If drinking hot coffee causes such issues for you, try switching to cold brewed. The benefits will still be present, but hopefully the discomfort will not.
